The smallest towns in the United States can be the most dangerous. Take Bessemer, Alabama with its population of 26,000 people and violent crime rate at 33.1 crimes per 1,000 residents.
This research was limited to cities with populations of at least 25,000. This report is based upon the total index crimes that were reported in each city. These include arson, burglary and theft of motor vehicles, as well as murder, rape and armed robbery.
