Anticipated Surge in Tourists for Mexico’s Summer Travel Hotspot

According to new data released by the Mexican government, Quintana Roo is still a popular tourist destination. Nearly two million tourists are expected in the summer of 2023.

According to Riviera Maya news, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, the State Tourism Secretary revealed that projections indicate an estimated 1.8 millions tourists will generate $1.7 Billion in Quintana Roo’s income this summer.

Riestra stated that tourism estimates were 4.4 percent higher than the previous year. This is due to the promotion of the state government “to ensure that a larger number of tourists reach state destinations.”

Bacalar, the top destination in Quintana Roo, is expected to grow by almost 20 percent this summer.

Riestra reported that the number of tourists visiting the archaeological zones in the Mexican state grew by 32.2% compared to last year’s same period.

“This shows the attraction of our beautiful state, and that visitors prefer to explore the natural wonders of the area in addition to the archeological zones,” Riestra said to Riviera Maya news.

The Institute of National Statistics and Geography revealed earlier this month that the number of foreign tourists arriving in Mexico in May increased by 9.3 percent to 3.3 millions, a jump of over 276,000 compared with the same month of 2022.
